Where are we staying? Back to Top
We actually get to stay in a number of different places. 1 night is spent at Island Gateway in Airlie beach, 3 on whichever boat you are assigned to, and 24hrs at Club Croc Long Island
How do we get there ? Back to Top
We hope on a flight from Brisbane straight up to Proserpine
How many people per room? Back to Top
At Island Gateway and Club Croc we stay in rooms which accommodate 4 people while the majority of the boats have open accommodation - guys at one end, and girls at the other.
Do we room with people we don't know? Back to Top
Each participant gets to nominate the three other people they would like to room with. We then do our best to matched these so that everyone is sharing with as many friends as possible. The one circumstance where this doesn't happen is where a there is a mixture of males and females in a group. In this case we will group the males together and the females and if necessary include people from another group.
What roles do the leaders play? Back to Top
The leaders are there to provide support for the participants and facilitate many of the details which need to be taken care of on a daily basis. They will maintain an awareness of times for transfers to the different locations/events and have a responsibility to be aware of where participants are at various times.
Are we kept under constant supervision? Back to Top
The answer here lies in part in your concept of supervision. There will be leaders with each line at each activity as well as other personnel in some cases. For example, when snorkelling on the reef the boat skippers are required by law to check you off on a role as you leave the boat and check again as you come aboard. They are also required to have a small rescue boat in the water during these times. On the other hand, when in Airlie beach you will be free during the day to swim in the lagoon ( under the supervision of the councils lifeguard) or wander through the town.
Do we have to follow the day to day itinerary? Back to Top
In broad terms yes. Each group (approximately 50 participants) has its own itinerary and needs to work within this. Each groups itinerary revolves around the 3 days they are booked on the boats and the evening they are booked at long island. Having said this, the time at Club Croc can largely be used at your discretion as can the time in Airlie.
What is the Christian content for the week? Back to Top
Backflip currently has no formal Christian input sessions. Each of the leaders is a Christian and the program booklet contains reflections for each day of the event. The remainder of the Christian content arises out of conversations which develop throughout the days activities.
