DAY 1:
Wave goodbye to your family and friends and board your Air New Zealand flight – Schoolies Begins!! Make new friends and get to know the great SU leaders that will be traveling with you through this momentous week of your life.
Welcome to New Zealand! Our tour guide will greet you at the airport and escort you to your awaiting transportation. On your way to the hotel a city sights tour will highlight the main attractions of Christchurch.
DAY 2:
This day is mostly scenic - Travel across the rich Canterbury Plains into the foothills of the MacKenzie Country. At Lake Tekapo view the Church of the Good Shepherd and Collie Dog statue before continuing on through Omarama. Traverse the Lindis Pass and travel alongside the gold bearing Clutha River, through the rugged Kawarau Gorge and into Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand! Prizes will be given to those who find the sights that were seen in Lord of the Rings! If your not a LOTR fan don’t be dismayed we’ll have a few things for you too!
DAY 3:
In Queenstown take in some morning shopping, what’s an overseas trip without the purchase of souvenirs? Then journey from Queenstown around the shores of Lake Wakatipu to Kingston, cross fertile farmlands to Fiordland. Travel through the Eglinton Valley, mountains tower above with dense beech forest in the valley, cross the Divide to the spectacular Hollyford Valley, through the Homer Tunnel to Milford Sound. You will even see some snow through here! A cruise takes you the full length of the Sound highlighting waterfalls, sheer cliffs, mountains and wildlife. Later journey back to experience the Te Anau Glowworm Caves. The adventure begins with a scenic cruise across Lake Te Anau. Upon arrival at Cavern House meet your guide that will lead you underground. Observe how the rushing water sculpts the rock formations, before gliding through silent darkness to the glow-worm grotto. The delicate incandescence of tiny glow-worms is a magical sight.
DAY 4:
So you wanted Adventure well here it is! This morning journey back to Queenstown where you will take part in your own personalised guided quad bike tour exploring the trails on Queenstown Hill. Be extreme and get muddy (or take it easy) as you ride your way around exclusive off-road terrain and take in some of the most awesome, panoramic views Queenstown has to offer. If that’s not enough, afterwards journey to the Shotover River for the World’s most exciting jet boat ride, The Shotover Jet. It’s an absolutely thrilling ride – skimming past rocky outcrops at close range in your Shotover Jet ‘Big Red’, as you twist and turn through the narrow canyons at breath taking speeds. Don’t forget to hold on tight for the famous 360-degree spins! Later visit the Skyline Gondola, which offers superb views over the town, lake and mountains and for a little excitement, try a Luge ride, this you will love race your new found friends and yes we’ll have prizes for first, last and maybe those who to took the scenic route and ended up going cross country!
DAY 5:
Its time to Queenstown the adventure capital, we’ll pass Lake Hayes then on to an area steeped in fascinating history relating to early settlement and the goldmining era to Lake Wanaka, a picture postcard resort on the lakes edge with a spectacular mountain backdrop. Pass Lake Hawea and the upper reaches of Lake Wanaka to Makarora, cross the Haast Pass into the Mt. Aspiring and Westland National Park. Drive north along the coast to the magnificent Glacier region and visit the National Park Headquarters, take a guided walk to the glacier’s terminal face.
DAY 6:
Time for an optional helicopter flight over the glaciers, then on to Greymouth to a Greenstone (Jade) factory to see craftsmen cutting and polishing giant boulders to create fine jewellery (this is a must souvenir stop). Cross the Otira Gorge and Arthurs Pass (you’ll feel like your entering Middle Earth!) to the Canterbury Plains and into Christchurch. This evening take a step back in time and discover Tane Mahuta, the Maori God of the forest and discover a people who live in harmony with nature and find out how their culture has grown. Listen as your guide explains how the South Island Maori lived before being guided into the Pa (village) with a powerful challenge and enter with a haka powhiri of welcome. Be entertained with traditional dancing and learn the haka (war dance) and poi dance (swinging ball). Later enjoy a Taste New Zealand dinner, where you’ll sample traditional New Zealand fare from an extensive Buffet menu. What better way to finish your Kiwi Experience?
DAY 7:
This morning you will be transferred to Christchurch International Airport for your flight home. Spend the last couple of hours of your Full Throttle adventure comparing photo’s, exchanging phone numbers and addresses with your new found friends on your flight home.
